Abstract

Evidence is presented that the cirrhitid fish Amblycirrhitus indicus Fowler, 1938, a new name for the preoccupied Cirrhites fasciatus Cuvier, 1829, is the Atlantic Amblycirrhitus pinos (Mowbray, 1927). Cuvier's type locality of India is regarded as a probable error.
